Margutti wins the NSF CAREER grant!

March 12, 2020

The prestigious NSF CAREER award is a clear indication of Raffaella Margutti’s strong standing in the community and especially of the importance and originality of her research projects.

Prof. Margutti has played a central role in discovering and interpreting rather strange and anomalous supernovae. Her insights are based on a mastery of many different observing platforms which she is able to deploy in unique ways. Her CAREER proposal highlights a subset of the exciting work she does – namely, the study of long gamma-ray bursts, explosive mass loss from dying massive stars, and supernovae of course. Her CAREER project also includes innovative educational programs which will strength and broaden the educational mission of our department.

Congratulations, Raffaella!
