Physics Shows That Imperfections Make Perfect

January 22, 2020

Northwestern University researchers Adilson Motter and Takashi Nishikawa have added a new dimension to the importance of diversity, as reported in Northwestern Now. For the first time, physicists have experimentally demonstrated that certain systems with interacting entities can synchronize — and thus behave identically — only if the entities within the system are different from one another. The findings were published in Nature Physics (2020).
