Tenure Track Professor in Theoretical Biological Physics or Complex Systems Physics

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in all areas of theoretical biological physics and complex systems, beginning September 1, 2019.

We seek outstanding individuals who will complement and expand the current activities of the Physics and Astronomy Department (www.physics.northwestern.edu) and will be active members of the broader Northwestern University biological and complexity communities. Research currently pursued by physics faculty include soft and biological materials, interfaces between inorganic and organic materials, complex networks in physical and biological systems, statistical physics of biological molecules, nonlinear dynamics, modeling of neuronal and intracellular processes including statistical mechanics of computation and learning, dynamical and structural properties of complex systems, and molecular origins of complexity.

Applicants should have a strong record of achievement in research and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching in physics. The ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field and will pursue connections with interdisciplinary efforts such as those promoted by the university’s NIH Biophysics Training Grant, the NCI-Northwestern Physical Sciences and Oncology Center, the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems, the Initiative for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern, and the NSF-Simons Center for Quantitative Biology.

Interested applicants should submit their curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and both a research and a teaching statement, and should arrange for a minimum of three reference letters to be sent in support of their application. All materials should be received by December 7, 2018 to receive full consideration. All materials should be submitted at www.physics.northwestern.edu. General questions may be addressed to Cristian Pennington at cristian.pennington@northwestern.edu
