David Buchholz

Professor Emeritus

PhD, University of Pennsylvania, 1972

David Buchholz's research interests lie primarily in the physics of quarks. He is currently an active member of two different experiments at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Projects E740 and E815), and also has a position on the E740 executive committee.

Project E740 (also known as the D0 Project) is concerned with proton-antiproton collisions at 2 TeV. The project team includes more than 450 physicists from 50 universities and laboratories in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The most significant result reported by the D0 team to date has been the discovery of the top quark. Buchholz is actively involved in data collection and analysis for the D0 Project as well as in future experimental upgrades, including a project to replace the current tracking detector with silicon microstrips for an upgraded D0 detector.

Project E815 is taking neutrino measurements. The main goal of this experiment is to make a precision measurement of the weak mixing angle. Buchholz was involved in developing the hardware and software needed to monitor the electronics associated with the drift chambers for this experiment.
